Winnipeg Goldeyes Send Hoopii-Haslam to Joliet

Ridge Hoopii-Haslam

WINNIPEG, MB – Ridge Hoopii-Haslam did a nice job as a rookie on a championship team last season, but the young player from Hawaii will not be back to start the 2017 season with the Winnipeg Goldeyes.

On Friday, the Fish traded Hoopii-Haslam to the Frontier League’s Joliet Slammers in exchange for a player to be named later.

Four Homers

Hoopii-Haslam batted .239 with four home runs and 30 RBI in 61 games played for the Goldeyes last season. The product of Hilo, Hawaii native saw action at second base, third base, and left field while also making two appearances on the mound.

He was originally acquired by Winnipeg in December of 2015 from the Gary SouthShore RailCats. Earlier that year, the 23-year-old hit .244 with seven home runs and 24 RBI as a true rookie for the Grand Prairie AirHogs.

Season Opener in Texas

The Goldeyes currently have 20 players under contract for the 2017 season.  American Association clubs may carry up to 28 players during spring training, which begins May 6th.

The Winnipeg Goldeyes open the 2017 season on May 18, on the road against the expansion Cleburne Railroaders.  The Goldeyes’ 2017 home opener is Monday, May 29, against the Sioux Falls Canaries at Shaw Park. Season tickets, 10-game mini packs, and group outings for the 2017 season are on sale now.
