Hernandez named American Association’s Pitcher of the Week
For the second time this season, Winnipeg Goldeyes pitcher Nick Hernandez has been named the Pointstreak American Association Pitcher of the Week.
Hernandez was named the Pitcher of the Week back on June 30, and has now received the honour for the week ending Aug. 17.
Hernandez earned wins in both of his starts this past week. He helped the Goldeyes beat the St. Paul Saints 6-4 on Tuesday, and then was a big part of the Goldeyes 14-0 shutout victory over the Sioux Falls Canaries on Sunday. Through the two games, Hernandez kept the opposition to a .132 batting average, gave up only two walks and struck out 11.
Hernandez leads Goldeyes pitchers with 10 wins on the season, and also tops the group with 84 stikeouts.
Hernandez joins Chris Salamida as the two Goldeyes pitchers who have earned the Pitcher of the Week title more than once this season.
The Goldeyes return home to take on the New Jersey Jackals in a three-game series that begins tonight at 7 p.m. at Shaw Park.
Tickets for all Goldeyes games are available through Ticketmaster by clicking on Ticketmaster.ca, calling 1-855-GOLDEYE or visiting any Ticketmaster location, including the Shaw Park box office.
