Winnipeg Blue Bombers Add Former NFL Defensive Tackle Irvin

WINNIPEG, MB. – On Monday it was announced that the Winnipeg Blue Bombers had signed 6-foot-2, 295 pound defensive tackle, Corvey Irvin to a contract.

After being drafted in the third round of the 2009 National Football League Draft to the Carolina Panthers, Irvin – an international player from Georgia – spent the better part of five seasons in the NFL. As a well-travelled member of the Jaguars, Buccaneers, Bears, Cowboys and Lions, Irvin racked up 24 games of professional experience before making his way north to Canada.

The 31-year-old had spent the past season with the rival, Saskatchewan Roughriders. He started all 18 games for Saskatchewan in 2016, registering 27 defensive tackles and five sacks. Irvin made his CFL debut with the Montreal Alouettes in 2015.

It was also announced on Monday that the Blue Bombers will be holding a mini-camp in Winnipeg in late April. The three-day April 26th-28th camp will entertain first and second-year CFL players, as well as all quarterbacks on the Bombers’ roster.
