Winnipeg Man Arrested Following Armed Police Chase

WINNIPEG, MB. – A 31-year-old male from Winnipeg was arrested early Thursday morning after patrol units observed his vehicle operating in an “erratic manner at a high rate of speed”.

After parking his vehicle in the 400 block of Sherbrook Street, the driver fled the scene on foot, while attempting to hide a loaded .22 calibre handgun. Police caught up with the alleged impaired suspect as he tried climbing a fence. He resisted arrest but was eventually taken into custody.

The 31-year-old has been handed seven charges including: Driving While Ability Impaired, Fail or Refuse to Provide Breath Sample, Resist Peace Officer, Carrying Concealed Weapon Prohibited Device or Ammunition, Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm, Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in Motor Vehicle, and Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition.

The suspect remains in police custody.
