Winnipeg man charged with abducting 5-year-old

As previously released, on Aug. 17, 2014, shortly after 1:30 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service received the report of a suspicious male in the area of Central Park.
Officers met with the complainant who advised that at approximately 12:30 p.m. she and her five-year-old son had been at the park. It was at this time that an unknown male attempted to lure her son away. A lifeguard intervened and the male left the area. Her son was not injured.
The male was described as: black, approximately 25 years of age, 5-foot-6 or 5-foot-7 with a slim build. He was wearing red hooded jacket, green shorts, gold necklace and was carrying a green and black Thomas Engine backpack.
The investigation continued by members of the Division 11 Crime Unit and a suspect was identified.
On Aug. 19, 2014, investigators located and arrested the 23-year-old suspect without incident.
Tyrone Olawemi Abdul Tijani-Mazur of Winnipeg has been charged with the following offences due to his alleged involvement:
• Abduction of Person Under Fourteen Years of Age
• Possession of a Scheduled Substance – Cannabis Resin
• Fail to Comply with Probation Order
• Fail to Comply Condition Undertaking by Officer in Charge
He was remanded into custody.
