Search and Rescue locates teen canoeists northeast of Lac du Bonnet

On Aug. 13, 2014, at approximately 9 p.m., Lac du Bonnet RCMP received a report of two females, 14 and 16 years of age, who had gone missing in a remote location while on a group camping and canoe trip on Elbow Lake, near the Ontario border, northeast of Lac du Bonnet. The two females were last seen by their fellow campers at 4:30 p.m. on Aug. 13, when they went to pick berries.

RCMP Search and Rescue was engaged, as was Manitoba Conservation and Water Stewardship, Office of the Fire Commissioner, Casara and Search and Rescue Manitoba. A helicopter located the two girls within a kilometre of the camp on a rock ridge just after 7 a.m. on Aug. 14, 2014. The two females were rescued by helicopter. No injuries were reported.

The 14-year-old female is from Winnipeg. The 16-year-old female is from East St. Paul.
