Opaskwayak Cree Nation man dies in SUV rollover north of The Pas

On Sept. 1, just before 9 a.m., The Pas RCMP responded to a single-vehicle rollover on Highway 297 (Cormorant Lake Road), approximately 25 kilometres east of the turn at Clearwater Lake. Initial investigation shows the eastbound SUV lost control, rolled and landed on its roof in the south ditch, which was full of water.
The passenger of the vehicle, a 20-year-old male from Cormorant, Man., was able to escape from the partially submerged vehicle. The driver, a 29-year-old male from Opaskwayak Cree Nation, was pronounced deceased on scene.
Alcohol is considered to be a factor in the collision.
A RCMP Forensic Collision Reconstructionist is assisting with the ongoing investigation.
The name of the deceased will not be released.
