Man, 82, drowns in Whiteshell fishing accident

On Aug. 11, 2014, just before 10:30 a.m., Lac du Bonnet RCMP responded to a call of a possible drowning at Lamprey Falls in the Whiteshell Provincial Park, Man., approximately 12 kilometres northeast of Pointe du Bois.

An 82-year-old male and a 50-year-old male from Winnipeg went out fishing at approximately 8 a.m. While attempting to anchor the boat, both males were thrown into the water. They were wearing personal floatation devices. While attempting to make it to shore, the 82-year-old male stopped breathing. He could not be revived.

The name of the deceased will not be released.

An autopsy has been ordered and the investigation continues.
