A body recovered from the Red River in downtown Winnipeg Sunday has been identified as 15-year-old Tina Fontaine, who was reported missing a week ago.
In a news release Monday afternoon, Winnipeg Police Service said the teen’s body was found near the Alexander Docks at 1:30 p.m. on Aug. 17. An autopsy has been performed.
Fontaine was last seen in downtown Winnipeg on Friday, Aug. 8. At the time of her disappearance, she was described an aboriginal female, 5-foot-3, 100 lbs., with a thin build, brown/black hair shaved on one side and long on the other and brown eyes. She was wearing a white skirt, blue jacket and pink-and-white runners.
The Winnipeg Police Service’s homicide unit, along with members of Fontaine’s family, are asking the public for assistance in identifying the person or persons responsible for the teen’s death.
