Adoptive dad charged with abusing infant in LaSalle

On Aug. 14, 2014, RCMP charged a 39-year-old male from La Salle, Man., with aggravated assault and fail to provide necessities of life in relation to an incident that occurred on May 25, 2014. A 10-week-old girl was taken to Winnipeg hospital with life-threatening injuries believed to be consistent with child abuse. RCMP launched an investigation.
The child was in the care of her adoptive parents when the injuries occurred. One of her adoptive parents is the individual facing charges. He has been released from custody and will appear in Winnipeg court on Aug. 19, 2014. There are no other children in the home.
The child’s condition has stabilized, but the extent of the long-term damage is undetermined. She is now in the care of Child and Family Services.
The name of the accused will not be released to protect the identity of the victim.
