There are loads of things to look forward to in spring: green grass, blooming buds and sprouting leaves; barbecue season; and drinks on the patio.
It’s also the time of year when restaurants typically introduce new menus. After months of carbohydrate-laden comfort foods, big cuts of meat and creamy, decadent desserts, we’re all ready to lighten up.
Dessert Sinsations, a popular downtown eatery, is fast out of the gate with a new seasonal menu featuring classic favourites alongside new dishes. Here’s a link to the new menu. (Check out PCG’s previous post about Dessert Sinsations here.)
Some highlights include: candied bacon, avocado and grilled chicken sandwich with Siracha aioli; portobello beef burger; trail mix quinoa salad and a superfood salad loaded with everything in the garden.
Dessert Sinsations is a local favourite serving brunch, lunch and dinner. It has been in business for nearly two decades and is owned by award-winning chef and pastry chef Barbara O’Hara and her family.
O’Hara has always been a big supporter of local ingredients and producers. That passion is still in place on this new menu. As always, O’Hara’s dessert case is stocked to capacity with cheesecake, pies, cakes, slices, cookies and cupcakes. Gluten-free and diabetic-friendly sweets are also there for the taking.
The bright and cheery spot is located downtown just west of the Winnipeg Art Gallery. Diners can park for free right outside the restaurant. (Convenient and free downtown parking is a huge plus.)
Besides the WAG, Dessert Sinsations is a short stroll to the Manitoba Legislative Building, the seat of the provincial government. It’s also surrounded by picturesque lawns and gardens which overlook the Assiniboine River.
Insider’s tip: Grab a latté and a cupcake to go and take a stroll down to the Leg and river walkways. It’s a great escape inside the city.
