GMP is ten years strong and the ultimate celebration of Canadian Excellence in cuisine, wine, the arts and athletic achievement. Celebrated in eleven cities across Canada in 2015, GMP features the premier chefs in each city in a competition to crown a gold, silver and bronze medal culinary team, and subsequently nation-wide at the Canadian Culinary Championships.

Each chef will prepare one appetizer-sized dish for approximately 550 guests. Chefs must select a Canadian wine or beverage to pair with his or her dish and, to ensure a level playing field, chefs must use plates provided by the venue. Chefs will be allowed a maximum of 10 staff members, in addition to two wine pourers per station.

Judging the 2015 competition in Winnipeg will be James Chatto (National Judge), Barbara O’Hara (Senior Judge), Jeff Gill, Christine Hanlon, Mike Green and Chef Luc Jean (2014 Gold Medal Plates Winnipeg Winner).  Each dish will be judged out of 100 points, based on visual presentation (20%), texture (20%), taste (30%), wine compatibility (10%), originality (10%) and wow factor (10%).

Gold Medal Plates is also known for its intimate and unique combination of Canadian talent. Leading the way as the Master of Ceremonies for this year’s event is Curt Harnett, Chef de Mission for the 2015 Pan Am Games, as well as four-time Canadian Olympian in cycling, winning three medals, one silver and two bronze. Joining Harnett on the stage will be entertainers Barney Bentall from Canadian rock band Barney Bentall and the Legendary Hearts will be joined by Rebecca Harder, Devin Cuddy, Sam Polley and Matthew Harder of Spirit of the West.

The Canadian Olympic Foundation is the beneficiary from the GMP events’ net proceeds, with funds being directed to the Own the Podium program. To date, GMP has provided $9.5 million to the Canadian Olympic Foundation, and once again, Olympians will be taking part in the dinners across Canada. Gold Medal Plates is very proud to help fund this incredible program, which is strengthening our athletes’ performances and Canada’s medal potential more every year.

Gold Medal Plates Winnipeg will once again feature a silent auction as well as a live auction, featuring spectacular getaways with Olympians and Canadian entertainers to destinations such as Big White, South Africa, British Virgin Islands, Tuscany, Portugal, Scotland and Newfoundland.
