Yachison Placed On Practice Roster

WINNIPEG, MB. — After a season with the University of Manitoba Bisons, receiver Derek Yachison has found a job on the practice roster of the CFL’s Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

On Saturday, the Bombers released 12 players including veteran CFL wideout Kenny Stafford, but they also placed 12 players on the practice roster, including the 6-foot, 195-pound Yachison out of Murdoch MacKay Collegiate. Yachison, who played his junior football with the Kamloops Broncos of the BC Junior League, was enrolled in the Kinesiology Program at the U of M last year.

Stafford, meanwhile, played nine games with the Montreal Alouettes last season, his fourth year in the CFL, and caught 16 passes for 215 yards. He was released, along with Duron Carter, by the Alouettes in the off-season. (interestingly, Carter is NFL hall of Famer Cris Carter’s son while Stafford is Cris Carter’s nephew). Signed by the Bombers on Jan. 17, 2017, was expected to challenge for a starting job with the Bombers, but in the end, he lost out in the numbers game.

Along with Stafford and Yachison, the Bombers made the following moves on Saturday afternoon:

* National offensive lineman Zachary Intzandt
* International linebacker Kyrie Wilson
* International defensive back Sam Brown
* International receiver Kenny Stafford

* International receiver Gerrard Sheppard
* International defensive lineman Shayon Green
* National receiver Brendon Thera-Plamondon
* International running back Kendall Roberson
