WSO Unveils 2017-2018 Brandon Series

WINNIPEG, MB. — The Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra (WSO) unveiled their 2017-2018 WSO in Brandon series.

It was revealed to patrons at their final concert of the season on Sunday, March 12th.

The series begins Sept 17 with a joyful program that sees Brandon’s own Kerry DuWors performing Beethoven’s radiant Violin Concerto, plus Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4, a work that the composer felt his greatest achievement.

Back by popular demand, A Christmas Celebration makes its return to Brandon, Dec 3, featuring favourite holiday classics and special local guests.

This past season, Mayor Rick Chrest joined the WSO on stage in front of a sold-out audience.

Brandon will have to wait to see what special guests take part in this family-fun seasonal show.

Pianist Katherine Chi joins the WSO, Feb 11, for a program of Schumann and Beethoven, including Schumann’s Manfred Overture and Symphony No. 3, a journey from imposing brass to bucolic waltzes to magnificent cathedral impressions.

Chi will perform Beethoven’s personal and expressive Piano Concerto No. 3.

The series closes with a very special chamber concert of Mozart & Haydn, Mar 11, featuring the virtuosity of WSO Concertmaster Gwen Hoebig, WSO Associate Concertmaster Karl Stobbe, WSO Principal Viola Daniel Scholz, WSO Principal Cello Yuri Hooker, and pianist David Moroz.

Music of friends, chamber music is sometimes called, as musicians love to perform what the great composers have been so generous to supply.

All concerts take place Sundays at 3:00 pm.
