Winnipeg Planned Spraying of “Tent-Worms” Tonight

WINNIPEG, MB.Tonight,  weather permitting, the City of Winnipeg’s Insect Control Branch will continue its forest tent caterpillar control program.

Starting at 9:30 p.m. crews will begin treatments in the Insect Management Areas 1 which include Kilcona Park, River East, Springfield North, Valhalla. Treatment will also begin in Area’s 45 – Burrows Central, Robertson, William Whyte, 48 – Inkster Gardens, Mandalay West, The Maples and 49 – Garden City, Leila – McPhillips Triangle, Margaret Park, Templeton – Sinclair.

Spraying will not occur if there is significant rainfall or if winds are greater than 20 km/hr. Please note that no treatments will happen on Monday due to the holiday.

The city will respect all buffer zones. Crews will ensure that the sprayer is not treating within 30 metres on each side of a registered property on the front street, side street, and rear lane.

You can apply for a 30-metre buffer zone in order to exempt your property from a treatment program. To register you must provide identification that ties the registrant to the address being registered for a buffer zone. A photocopy or scanned document like a driver’s license, Manitoba Hydro, MTS or another utility bill.  

There are four different options to register:

  • In writing to Insect Control Branch at 3 Grey Street, Winnipeg, MB R2L 1V2,
  • Emailing 311 at
  • Faxing 311, and
  • In person at 1539 Waverley Street.
