Winnipeg Goldeyes Lose Last Pre-Season Game

WINNIPEG, MB – Despite solo home runs by first baseman David Bergin, catcher Alixon Suarez and shortstop Andrew Sohn, the Winnipeg Goldeyes lost their final pre-season game on 2017.

With the teams tied 6-6 in the bottom of the eighth, Matt Chavez hit a two-run homer off of Goldeyes newly-signed Thomas Bess to give the Wichita Wingnuts an 8-6 win over the Fish at Lawrence Dumont Stadium in Wichita on Tuesday night.

The Goldeyes took leads of 2-0, 4-3 and 6-4 but the pitching didn’t hold up and Winnipeg finished the pre-season with a record of 3-2

 The Goldeyes open the 2017 season on Thursday night, May 18, on the road against the expansion Cleburne Railroaders.  The home opener is Monday, May 29, as the the Sioux Falls Canaries invade Shaw Park for a 7 p.m. start.

Thursday night’s season opener can be heard live on 93.7 FM CJNU, beginning at 6:05 p.m. direct from The Depot at Cleburne Station.
