  • 1952: Manitoba hangs 48-year-old plumber Henry Malanik for fatally shooting a detective. He is the last person to be executed here by hanging.
  • 1962: Local jeweller Ben Moss, founder of the eponymous chain, dies.
  • 1631: Mughal emperor Shah Jahan I begins building the Taj Mahal after his wife, Mumtaz Mahal, dies during childbirth. The process took over 20 years.
  • 2012: Rodney King dies.
  • 1988: The Boss Bruce Springsteen and Juliette Phillips separate.
