Spend Thursday Nights With the WSO
WINNIPEG, MB. – The second installment of the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra’s (WSO) Thursday Night Classics series brings the music of ten composers from the United States, France, and England to the intimate setting of the Club Regent Event Centre, June 1 at 7:30 pm.
Bolero!, conducted by Music Director Alexander Mickelthwate, will put all the sections of the orchestra on display in exciting selections from Bernstein, Ravel, Bizet, Elgar, Copland, Tchaikovsky, John Williams, and more.
The Thursday Night Classics series offers a relaxed and unique way for music lovers to listen to favourite classics from around the world up close to the orchestra. The conductor also acts as a host with storytelling, audience engagement, and a few special surprises. The series started in Vienna at Down the Danube, March 2, and now Bolero! displays the genius of American, French, and English composers who test the limits of orchestration, plus a hint of Jazz. It all wraps up with the fragrant music of Puccini, Verdi, and Rossini in Mediterranean Romance, July 6.
“It’s a really interesting space. Instead of having the orchestra on the stage, we’re actually pulling the orchestra into the middle of the room and the audience gets to sit up close to the orchestra,” said Resident Conductor Julian Pellicano, who led the orchestra at the Mother’s Day Special at the Club Regent Event Centre.
Club Regent features a beautiful wood panelled acoustic concert hall, cabaret seating, ample free parking with shuttle service, restaurant and bar service.
