Man in custody following lengthy police pursuit

Southwest Winnipeg was the scene of a police chase early Thursday morning.

A half hour police pursuit ended on McGillivray Boulevard between Columbia Drive and Kenaston Boulevard around 6:00am.

Residents told reporters they saw police with guns drawn on a red Ford Raptor after it entered the ditch with tires blown and sparks flying.

Police say the vehicle topped out at 170 km/h at times.

Officers attempted to stop the vehicle multiple times while in pursuit.

Spike strips were deployed, but the man continued driving with deflated tires.

A 20-year-old man is facing a slew of charges, including: Flight while Pursued by Peace Officer, Dangerous Operation of Motor Vehicle, Resist Peace Officer, Possession of a Weapon, Driving While Ability Impaired, Driving with More Than 80mgs of Alcohol in Blood, Possess Break-in Instruments, and Theft Under $5000.00.
