Hal Anderson’s Thoughts For The Week Of February 27th
WINNIPEG, MB. – Well, did you enjoy the Oscars? And did you keep watching right to the end when they somehow screwed up the awarding of the Best Picture Academy Award? If you missed it, La La Land was on stage accepting the hardware when they discovered the mistake and Moonlight was called up to get the Oscar. I wouldn’t want to be that accounting firm! Here’s what I’m really upset about, Jimmy Kimmel did a great job hosting but none of it will be talked about or remembered now. His best bit was when he brought through a bunch of unsuspecting movie fans who were on a tour of Hollywood. Hilarious! You were fantastic Jimmy!
Designer Karl Lagerfeld is getting blasted by Meryl Streep after he claimed she wouldn’t wear one of his Chanel dresses unless they paid her. This feud is really messing up the fashion world. There hasn’t been this much tension on a runway since Harrison Ford landed his plane.
I interviewed my friend Garth Meacham, also known as the Viking Carver, on my radio show on the weekend. Watch for the video soon. He made me this walking stick a few years ago. Check out more of his work here.
Donald Trump has decided not to attend this year’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner. The last president to pass on the dinner was Ronald Reagan in 1981 but he was recovering from being shot. So come on Trump, go to the damn dinner! I’ll be honest, I’m disappointed. I think he should go and give ’em hell. The “fake news media” can handle it.
I think Mayor Brian Bowman might be taking a trick or two from Trump. In his State Of The City speech, Bowman talked a lot about helping Uber come to Winnipeg and re-opening Portage and Main instead of focusing on more serious issues. Don’t get me wrong, I think Uber is a good thing. But I think Bowman might be distracting us. While we’re talking about Portage and Main, we’re not going after him about stuff like our crumbling infrastructure.
I’m not a big Ping Pong fan but this is crazy! Here’s the video of a table tennis rally that lasted more than 10 minutes! It’s the longest rally in history, 766 shots! Don’t worry, they speed up the video so it only takes 39 seconds. Worth Wartching!
A big shoutout to the Manitoba rink at the Scotties! Yes, even skip Michelle Englot who happens to be from Saskatchewan. They did a great job getting to the final at the Tournament Of Hearts. But fell a bit short in the final which was a real nail-biter.
Have a great week!
