Goldeyes Lose to Lincoln in 12 Innings

WINNIPEG, MB – It’s officially a slump.

The Winnipeg Goldeyes lost their third straight game on Tuesday night, dropping a 4-3 decision in the 12th inning to the Lincoln Saltdogs.

The Goldeyes usually reliable closer Ryan Chaffee gave up three walks and a single in the bottom of the 12th as the Fish fell to 17-14 on the season.

Playing in front of 2,395 at Haymarket Park in Lincoln on a hot Tuesday Tuesday night – it was 33 degrees Celsius at the time of the opening pitch — Lincoln jumped out to 2-0 lead after two innings, the Goldeyes posted three runs in the third and then Lincoln tied with a run in the fourth. From that point on, the pitchers took over and until the bottom of the 12th, it was nothing but zeros on the board.

The Goldeyes scored all of their runs with one out in the third. Andrew Frazier walked and went to second on an Andrew Sohn single. Josh Romanski doubled, scoring Frazier and sending Sohn to third. David Bergin then doubled, scoring Sohn and Romanski and for a short period of time, the Goldeyes had a 3-2 lead.

But that was it. The Goldeyes didn’t score another run despite finishing the game with nine hits.

Reliever Leuris Gomez (1-0, 6.38 ERA) earned the win for Lincoln while Chaffee (0-1, 1.98 ERA) suffered the loss. There was no save. Goldeyes starter Mikey O’Brien pitched a solid game, allowing three runs on seven scattered hits. He had five strikeouts and five walks.

Sohn, Romanski and David Rohm each had two hits for the Goldeyes. Bergin drove in two runs while Romanski drove in one.

The Goldeyes and Saltdogs play Game 3 of this three game series on Wednesday night at 6:45 p.m. The game can be heard live on 93.7 CJNU.
