Drunk driving drifter flees Brandon police

A 25-year-old drifter is facing charges for drunk driving and fleeing police.

It happened around 11:30pm Thursday in the 400-block of Brandon’s Richmond Avenue.

Police observed a Chevrolet Camaro travelling west on Richmond at a high speed.

One officer left the checkstop to follow the vehicle.

He found it stopped in the 300-block of Park Avenue.

The officer saw the driver drinking booze and asked him to step out of the vehicle when he took off.

Police followed the vehicle until he turned onto 8th Street against traffic.

He collided with a van near Louise Avenue causing extensive damage to both vehicles.

Luckily, no one was injured.

Police arrested the suspect and give him a breathalyzer.

He blew twice the legal limit.

The alleged drunk driver has been charged with Impaired Driving, Drive over 80 mg%, Flight from Police, Dangerous Driving, Breach of Undertaking, as well as a warrant for Assault Cause Bodily Harm.

The man, who has no fixed address, was lodged in the Brandon Correctional Centre.

He appeared in a court room on Friday.
