DEAD: Philippine Troops Kill Terrorist Who Beheaded Canadians
INTERNATIONAL NEWS – Troops fighting terrorists in the Philippines have called Moammar Askali, a top member of the Abu Sayyaf extremist group who took part in beheading two Canadian citizens.
The same man also beheaded a German citizen.
Askali’s remains were found after a battle in Bohol island. In addition to Askali, five other terrorists were killed in the battle, while three Philippine soldiers and a police officer lost their lives.
The Abu Sayyaf terrorist organization has pledged allegiance to the Islamic State. Askali reportedly had training in making bombs, and was taking part in kidnapping for ransom operations close to busy tourist centres.
Abu Sayyaf has often focused on kidnapping tourists, and Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has declared his intention to destroy the terrorist group.
The beheadings of the Canadian and German hostages by Askali and Abu Sayyaf came after the deadline for paying ransom had passed. The Canadians killed were John Ridsel and Robert Hall. Hall’s severed head was later found in a plastic bag.
