Body recovered following Birds Hill drowning

MANITOBA — A 22-year-old immigrant from Africa has drowned at Birds Hill Provincial Park.

The man’s body was pulled from the water hours after he was reported missing.

STARS air ambulance was called to the beach around 3:00pm Saturday.

Volunteers helped patrol the shallow waters while lifeguards and emergency crews from East St. Paul used three boats to scan the away from the shore.

The University of Manitoba student was found unresponsive around 4:45pm.

He was rushed to Winnipeg’s Concordia Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

An update from the RCMP may be coming later in the day Sunday.
